Business Valuations
A business valuation provides an estimate of how much your business is worth from an objective third party who has experience, training, and expertise in valuing businesses. A business is typically worth more than the sum of its physical assets. The excess over the value of physical assets is commonly referred to as goodwill. Estimating the value of goodwill requires an in-depth analysis and specialised knowledge.

Extensive information about the company, the industry in which it operates, the economic condition within its market area, its competitors, and its customer base must be gathered and analysed. Many different methods and approaches must be considered and selectively applied using the judgement of an objective, experienced professional. Just plugging figures from financial statements and tax returns into a spreadsheet or formula, or using "rules of thumb" is simply not enough to perform a competent business valuation -- one that will hold up in court or under audit.

When is a Valuation Needed?
A business valuation may be useful or required in many situations. For example -- preparing estate plans, determining property settlements in divorce proceedings, buying or selling a business, preparing buy/sell agreements, settling partner or shareholder disputes, and formulating estate and gifting plans.
